Foam Crown Molding

Foam Crown Molding is Easy to Install and Low Cost

By Mark J. Donovan

Crown molding can improve the look and value of your home like no other type of decorative molding. Installing crown molding can be complicated and very expensive, however for those on a budget and who have limited carpentry skills, foam crown molding maybe just the ticket. Foam crown molding (a.k.a. Styrofoam crown molding) is inexpensive, easy to install, is moisture resistant, and will not shrink or warp.

Foam crown molding comes in a variety of different profiles and can easily be installed by one person. In addition, unlike wood crown molding, no expensive tools are required to install it. Some foam crown molding manufacturers actually sell stock that already has mitered edges or comes with boxed corners.

To install foam crown molding, simply cut it to length, apply a construction adhesive to the back of it, and stick it to the wall. After the construction adhesive has dried you then apply spackling to hide the seams.

Once the spackling has dried you can immediately paint the foam crown molding, as it comes ready to paint. No priming is required. Just apply a latex paint over it and your crown molding project is complete. You can also pre-paint the foam crown molding prior to installing it to make your work even easier. All you need to do is touch it up with a final coat of paint, after the spackling has dried.

So if you want to add some elegance to your home consider foam crown molding. It’s affordable, easy to install and will increase the value of your home.
